Hummingbirds at my Feeder

by Cathy M.

This is presented as one of a series of Fun Photo Essays.  Thank you CathyM  for sharing your fun photos of the hummingbird at your feeder!

I wanted to get some close-up pictures of hummingbirds at my feeder before they migrate south for the winter. I’ve been waiting until I get a digital camera, but that doesn’t look like it’s going to happen before they leave so I set up my SLR on a tripod and sat and waited for them. Boy, it wasn’t easy. Nature photographers must have the patience of Job!

The feeder is in a tall bush just outside our sun room. I sat in a chair waiting to hear their buzzing sound then I’d put my head down to the view finder. If they saw that movement, they’d fly away. So I would have to sit, head down waiting for them to show, then hopefully fire off some pictures. Thank heavens the noise from the camera didn’t disturb them too much.  I wish I could have gotten a picture of a male, but the females always chased the males away!
